We offer a complete training to 3D design, using two softwares for 3D modelling the fundamental components of shoes, from the most basic concepts to the final rendering of the materials.

Virtual prototypes of your designs

The course is divided into three main topic areas: 
  • 3D tools for the shoe industry
  • general purpose 3D modelling tools
  • materials and rendering
We chose iCad3D+ that we believe is an excellent tool from many standpoints, especially when it comes to offering the possibility of connecting the 3D design to the technical development of the shoe in an extremely precise and fast way. However, there are good reasons to teach a more generalist 3D modelling tool as well: the first and most important is the extremely accessible price, number of available online resources, continuous updating, and the possibility of exchanging data with many other tools that are part of different digital workflows.
In Arsutoria, we chose Rhinoceros, because it is quite popular in the footwear industry, especially for the 3D design of soles (both athletic/sneaker outsole and fashion heels).

Approximate* overall time for course completion is 88 hours which is divided in:
  • duration of pre-recorded classes: 22 hours
  • duration of individual reviews: 4/5 hours total (specific time will be agreed on with instructors at the beginning of the course)
  • time of individual student’s commitment to develop the course work: 60 hours
*Approximate: please notice that besides pre-recorded videos and the review time, the additional timing calculation is an estimate based on past students’ experience. Anyhow, students work at their own pace and each individual has its own time of work development so the present data is shared to provide an idea about time needed to absorb, exercise and deliver.

Due to online class capacity and software licenses deadline, students need to complete enrolment at least 10 working days prior to program start.

In order to attend this online class, you need to have a personal computer capable of running the required software. You can use these specs as a baseline to evaluate if your PC is powerful enough:

  • Intel Core i5 or better
  • 50 GB free hard disk space
  • 8 GB RAM (16 is strongly recommended)
  • Dedicated 3D Graphics card
  • External mouse with scroll wheel

MacOS is not supportedby iCad3D+

Rhinoceros and iCad3D+ licenses will be provided to participants before the beginning of the class
